Hip Love
So I hadn't been feeling the Hip love...I got my OB Hip in a trade from the lovely Katrina and then the Hip prices promptly tanked...so I felt kind of like I was stuck with it.
So I have been using it and trying to figure out the best way to make it work for me. Before this I mostly carried a Tween, which as you know is like a big ball on the end of a strap - it is hard for me to carry.
Today I had my Hip cross body as we went to the grocery store. I found that I was able to keep it on my body the whole time without hardly noticing it there! What a change! It wasn't bouncing around or falling off my shoulder. And I didn't have to have it take up half the shopping cart.
Now if I can get the straps modified with swivel clips, and if it only had a key clip for my keys...it might be almost perfect.
I wasn't sure about the hip in the beginning either...my first one was a MV hip and I was a bit on the fence about it when I first got it, but after packing it up and actually using it...I fell in love, not only with the hip but with MV...so naturally it is one of my fav bags and now i have 5 of them!!
+ I am sooooooo disappointed that they are most likely discontinuing the hips hence why none of the new prints are coming in it. There is quite a bit of hip love around here, but I think the pricing at $80 for it has been it's demise once they were being available gently used on the FSOT for $65..more were buying and more were being put up for sale..and then the Amazon warehouse deals were popping up and the Costco deals...suddenly these are going like hotcakes!! why? well..it's obvious, we love the hip style, but the retail price for one is just too much for what the bag consists of..am I right? Not that I wouldn't pay $80 for a hip in a print that I looove...say Sea Glass for instance.... I may be way off my kicker..but that seems like the only logical explaination for sales on certain bags plummiting!

I don't think that it was unreasonably priced at $80, considering the retail price of the other JJBs is much higher. I think the issue is, the Hip may not sell very well outside of the PR because it doesn't have the same appeal to the diaper bag crowd as other JJBs like the All and BFF (the All being a huge seller outside the PR, but yet doesn't get a ton of love here!) For sure I think demand went up once the Costco stuff hit the fan but ultimately I'm not sure if the Hip will ever be that hot of an item generally for JJB.
While I love my hip, I wish a few things were different. I wish there was a more efficient mommy pocket. I wish it had a magnetic strap closure. I wish it was a little bit easier to organize. I know these are seen as easy alteration to some of you, but you have to be good with a sewing machine or shell or more money to have it completed.
Maybe JJB is going to come out with a better hip? I'm excited!

I tend to agree with this. The Hip doesn't seem like a typical diaper bag, and I'm not sure how well its been placed in stores compared to the All, PB, BFF, etc. (My stores only carry those, not Hips.) At first I thought it was a Dad bag, then wondered about the feminine print versions. I only got one used to try as a pump bag but ended up loving it as a diaper bag too. Although I tend to use Quicks in it, which is a very PL thing to do, not something I expect regular Mamas to try.
I agree with a few very minor changes it could be great. Right now I really like mine for all the reasons mentioned above.

I was thinking more outside the PR, some moms who were looking into JJB I know and are not PL were telling me that they would rather pay double the price to a more appealing diaper bag...like the Be All and BFF, they look more "beefy" I guess and they think they are getting more for their money(which they are) it's just a matter of "will that bag really work for you though?" kind of question, because they don't know what JJB works for them yet mostly and others probably don't particularly care about "trying out" multiple bags, they want one and be done with it, which is totally fine. I was able to talk my friend into getting a hip, but didn't want to pay full price for it, so when I found one on the FSOT for $55 she deccided to get it! take the mini for instance, outside the PR others did not want to pay the retail price for such a small bag...where as in here we are paying 2x as much for them, The more new moms I talk to when deciding on a "nice/designer" diaper bag they look at the Be All very first because they are looking for just a diaper bag and the Be all the what all of the "other" diaper bags look like so that tends to appeal to them as a diaper bag, the question I have is that the trend of what JJB is doing as far as discontinuing certain prints/bag styles, etc is due to the trend outside of the PR and doesn't seem to be matching what is IN the PR are there more demands for JJB prodeucts outside of the PR vs. Inside? just a thought if they are more wanting to focus just on products for baby, ie no more wallets, etc, then that is what they will do , but since I love the "non-baby" products of JJB, this may be whre I stop. if JJB doesn't plan on coming out with any new bag styles, there will be no more need for me to purchase anything new since it's matching to the genreal public now...which, whatever, JJB can do as they like
