My husband and I did a singalong at a friend's birthday party, and we used our ukuleles (our new obsession!!) and on the way out the door, I realized the MB would be a great bag to haul them along! It easily fit our two concerts and a soprano, and a music stand - with lots of room to spare!
Who knew JJB had musical uses!!

Cathie, you play the ukulele??? Yet another thing we have in common I played the ukulele for Alexander's preschool class last week, since they were studying the letter U.
Next time we get together, we can have a concert

That is so awesome that you play the ukulele. I wish my hubby and I had something we did together, other than watch tv
Well, give it a try! The uke is relatively easy, and so fun! We have actually spent lots of time together lately playing and singing and the tv has been a bit ignored!

Oh my goodness, there we go again!!! That's awesome!
How long have you been playing? I had a sudden interest at the beginning of the year, and decided that is what I wanted for my birthday. So, we bought a really nice Concert (Kala solid mahogany) and it has grown from there! I've only been playing for about 2 months but it is quite simple to get going on it, plus some of my musical background is slowly coming back! (My husband and I actually met the first day of Harmony class at Mohawk College in the music program there - almost 20 years ago!! He plays sax, and I was a vocal major.) He is a music teacher at an elementary school, has a Big Band, DJs, etc but I haven't done much with music since we graduated... I sing to the dogs once in a while! We played a little singalong at Etta's birthday at the beginning of April, and then offered ourselves to our friend who has a boy the same age on Sunday. It was fun (though hard because most of the adults were chatting while we played, and I could hardly hear myself!). He has the idea that we should keep practicing, and maybe we'll be able to hire ourselves out for kid's parties/events in a few months. It has been nice to spend time with him doing and being able to get back to doing something I miss!
What uke(s) do you have? We recently met a local guy who sells ukes and have added to our collection as he has been giving us some good deals! Simon was able to arrange for his school to buy some from him to add to the music program, so that was an exciting move for the school! The kids are already really excited! This guy (Cecil) refers to an "addiction" regarding ukuleles... as "UAS" Ukulele Aquisition Syndrome and yep, it is true! We went from one nice uke for me, to 5 (and a couple more that have moved on to the school program - good deals). Yikes! One is officially Etta's, but still...
Anyway, so excited to hear that you play too!
(I realize now this maybe should be a new topic outside of the bag forum... )
I thought you'd become hitmen... or tennis pro's ..couldn't tell which...
I know, so funny! They are hard to figure out if you aren't used to seeing them! I'll have to do a photo shoot of our little collection - they are really cool!
(Oh, and I guess if someone is a hitman or tennis pro, JJB has the bag for them! ) Cathie

I actually learned in elementary school! There used to be (or maybe still is) a program in Canada that teaches elementary kids how to play the ukulele. We started in grade 4 and played until grade 6, so really only 3 years (band started in grade 7). But amazingly, I still remember most of what I learned, and the rest comes back pretty quickly. Until last fall, I still had the ukulele that my mom bought me in elementary school. But Alexander was playing with it and it broke, so when we went to Hawaii last fall, I bought a new one. Not sure what kind, but it sounds nice. The only difficult thing is that the school program taught us on D-tuned ukes (not sure if that's the correct way to refer to it), but most standard ukes are C-tuned. So I have trouble reading chords - the basic C chord is D chord to me, and so on. It gets confusing, but I think it's too late to retrain my brain about the chord names So I just wing it.
The preschool kids loved having me play the ukulele in their class - almost makes me want to look into starting a school program down here, but I don't think I'm that good. I know the basic chords and some more advanced ones, but nothing really fancy.
Anyways, we'll have to jam sometime
